Knoxville School Board approves bus lease, school calendar and publishing HVAC bids

The Knoxville School Board last night approved a three-year bus lease, the calendar for the 2016-17 school year and publishing bids for a new HVAC system at Mable Woolsey Elementary School.

Superintendent Steve Wilder says the board accepted the three-year lease for four school buses. The district will pay Central States Bus Sales just under $12,000 per bus each year, meaning about $144,000 for the entirety of the lease.

The board also approved next school year’s calendar, which will be available on bluebullets.org. Wilder says the first day of classes is set for Aug. 17.

The Knoxville School Board also approved publishing bids for installing an HVAC system at Mable Woolsey Elementary School.

Wilder tells WGIL the particulars of the HVAC bids will be available as more information comes in.

“We expect to have a couple of different options to look at when it comes to the HVAC system at the elementary school,” he says. “The architect and the engineers are in the process of getting the information together, so it’s hard to gauge exactly what the cost is going to be at this point, but as soon as we nail down the option that works best for us, we should have some cost estimates and then get the bids out as soon as we can.”

He adds that the system should be installed over the summer.

In other news, the board rescheduled the district’s previously cancelled town hall meeting for 6 p.m. May 3 in the Knoxville High School auditorium.
