Despite being vote down last month by the Knox County Board, the energy efficiency projects proposed by SmartWatt may not be dead yet.
Buildings Committee Chair, Jared Hawkinson, told board members last night that there is still potential to move the project forward.
“It was mentioned that there was some confusion as well on some further work that could be done to potentially move that project forward. Even though the main contractor that they selected is out of Springfield, that the majority of the mechanical subcontractor work would be from local contractors.”
SmartWatt had been working with the Knox County Building Committee for the last year creating several proposals for utility savings measures. The cost of the upgrades and renovations would be fronted by a third party and paid for utilizing the savings seen from the upgrades.
There wasn’t any indication in the meeting when the committee or board would consider these projects again.
Also in buildings related votes, the board approved a bid for external protection for the courthouse heating system, which has been an issue for the last two years.
