“May Friendship Day”

Friday, May 3, 2019 @ 9:00 am

Church Women United of Monmouth and Vicinity will be sponsoring May Friendship Day and invite you to please attend the 9:00 a.m. breakfast celebration day at First Lutheran Church ELCA, 116 South “B” Street in Monmouth (no reservations needed). The theme, “The Time Is Now! Agree to Differ” (based on John 4:23a), centers on working together despite our differences to address poverty in our community. For further details, please call 309-734-2106. The scripture reading will be Ephesians 4:2-3 and there will also be a Fellowship of the Least Coin Offering taken. The FLC is an international movement that’s over 60 years old. It’s focus is prayer, and ecumenical action to support peace and reconciliation.

May Friendship Day began in 1933 when two women’s groups, meeting at separate luncheons, focused on children’s health and the children of migrant families. In 1939 the groups merged to become the National Council of Church Women. In 1945 the observance officially became May Fellowship Day and in 1999 CWU changed the name to May Friendship Day. There are a total of four celebration days throughout the year. The remaining two dates are: September 13, Love Tea to be held at First United Methodist Church, Monmouth; and November 1, World Community Day to be held at Kirkwood United Methodist Church, Kirkwood.
