Verizon retailer opening on Henderson and Fremont

A retailer selling products from America’s largest wireless provider has claimed a spot on one of Galesburg’s busiest intersections.

Scott Sylvester is President of The Digital Store, a company with locations around Central Illinois that contracts with Verizon Wireless, selling their products and servicing their customers, while being independently owned.

Sylvester says his company has been eyeing a move into Galesburg for a few years but had trouble finding a spot that fit their and Verizon’s needs.

Then they came upon the vacant lot on Fremont and Henderson Streets, where a Midas muffler shop closed a few years ago.

“We have to be so far away in proximity to another Verizon location,” Sylvester said. “So that kind of precluded us from getting some other locations we had previously looked at.”

Peoria developer Jeffrey Graves brought the location to Sylvester oversaw building construction. The Digital Store will lease from Graves.

Sylvester says that his store, that is adorned most prominently with Verizon signage, is basically a Verizon store.

“… and I say basically because the bills are still from Verizon, the pricing of the service is all the same. It’s just that, really, the only thing that kind of sets it apart is we are not technically employees of Verison. I have a contract with Verizon.”

He says the market really sets the pricing but how they set themselves apart from competitors, including other Verizon stores, is with excellent customer service.

Verizon signage recently up on the building and they’re wasting no time, planning on an opening before March.
