KFM’s Teacher of the Month-March 2024

Congratulations to March’s KFM Teacher of the MonthTracy Howard — a 2nd grade teacher at United North Elementary School. Tracy was nominated by Katy Carlson who’s daughter Charlotte is a student in her class.  As KFM’s Teacher of the Month, Tracy receives the Big Red Apple Award with her name engraved on it from Lacky Monuments along with a $100 gift card from Tompkins State Bank and a bouquet from Cooks-n-Company.  Here’s what Katy had to say about Tracy:

What sets this teacher apart from others?
Ms. Howard has let Charlotte progress and learn new skills on her own time. Because of this, Charlotte has never been discouraged while learning. She is now excited to come right home and do that homework and to pick up a book. She has excelled in every aspect in Ms Howard’s classroom.

What is one thing this teacher does that is not in their job description but they do it anyway to help you or your child?
Ms. Howard celebrates the wins, big and small. Charlotte is a completely different child since starting at United this year and it’s due to this classroom. She has built her confidence level up to where she believes in herself and never gives up. She has really spent the extra time with her and is happy to do it. I have never seen an educator be a cheerleader prior to Ms Howard.

Give an example of a way this teacher has helped or impacted you or your child.
Char was extremely behind in reading at the beginning of the year. We had never really been alerted to any concerns with her abilities prior to the year. Ms. Howard noticed that there were gaps in her learning and wasted no time in getting her the help that she needed. She took my child, who beat herself up and gave up every time she picked up a book, and transformed her into a confident little bookworm! She has exceeded her goals with months, yes months to spare, and is still working hard. Ms Howard has made this a fun, rewarding experience for Charlotte and us. When Char met her goals, they ran down the halls telling all her teachers the good news and even got to make a special phone call home to celebrate. Every so often we still get those special texts with celebrations of milestones achieved. There are not enough words I could say to even begin to thank her for what she has done for our little one. She has given her so much. She is truly deserving of this award.

Congratulations Tracy Howard from Nissan of Galesburg, Tompkins State Bank, Cooks-n-Company, Lacky Monuments and 105.3 KFM
