Ride-share platform, Uber looks like it’s making its way into Knox, Warren, and several other area counties.

Uber’s General Manager for Illinois David Shapir announced an expansion of the company’s services Wednesday through 39 counties in Northwest, Central, and Southern Illinois.

Fulton, McDonough, Stark, Warren are also included.

It’s not immediately clear when service will begin or when potential drivers can begin going through the screening process.

The company says this will give Illinois residents access to reliable and affordable transportation as well as prospective drivers the ability to earn money on their own schedule.

President of the Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development Ken Springer says the development is “broadly positive” for our area. Springer says, “Rideshare services for long have been associated with population-dense urban places, but now this amenity is available in our region.”
