Galesburg man arrested for battery after intentionally coughing on food delivery driver

Earlier this week on Sunday, July 19th, a delivery driver for Jimmy John’s called in a complaint to Galesburg Police of a customer who “intentionally coughed on her while she was delivering his food to him”. The customer, 54-year old Michael Fitzpatrick of Galesburg admitted to being very rude to the delivery driver but denied coughing on her. The delivery driver wished to pursue charges against Fitzpatrick. In her written statement to police, the driver stated the customer “made several comments about the mask she was wearing….referring to her mask as a muzzle and making fun of her for wearing it.” She also told police she had spittle and saliva on her from his intentionally coughing on her. Fitzpatrick was then issued a citation and arrested for battery.
