Aldermen discussing sale of Broad Street Armory

Galesburg City Council next week will discuss selling the Broad Street Armory to a local timber frame and restoration business.
The council approved a 4-year lease with Trillium Dell last summer for them to use part of the building for their operations.

The sale price is $36,000, but Trillium Dell was required to bring the leased areas of the Armory up to code at their cost, which they’ve done.

Trillium Dell estimates that they have spent approximately $220,000 in bringing the leased area up to code to date according to Council documents.

The business would still have to invest another $200,000 to open up the North side of the building for use as well.

Trillium Dell has big plans for renovation and reuse of the former National Guard armory.

They say they will renovate the existing kitchen to create a shared kitchen concept for start up businesses, repair the roof on the north side of the building, remove asbestos, finish off north offices and restrooms on the first floor to name a few.

These proposals would have to be approved by the State Historic Preservation Office.
Aldermen rejected a nearly $3.5 million proposal in 2016 to turn the Armory into a community/recreation center.
