Study of potential Lake Storey expansion approved

Galesburg City Council signed off last week on studying the potential expansion of Lake Storey.

The study costs $50,000, plus expenses estimated at around $2,500.

City staff looked for firms that do these kinds of studies for large bodies of water and development surrounding those bodies.

Gregory Weykamp, President of Edgewater Resources, says in a letter to Parks and Rec Director Tony Oligney-Estill that the company was founded with the focus of “enhancing communities through better utilization of their waterfronts.”

Edgewater will study physical possibilities for expansion, cost estimates, analysis of real estate market conditions and trends and a recommended implementation strategy among other aspects.
The study is expected to take 90 days.

Funds were set aside in August for this study.

City Manager Todd Thompson said at that time a full-scale land study would cost about $250,000, but this initial work is to give council enough information to see if they want to explore the issue further.
