Charges pending in high-speed pursuit

More charges could be coming soon in Knox County Court for a 39-year-old Galesburg man after getting involved in a police chase yesterday morning.

According to Galesburg Police, officers identified Christopher Nickas as having outstanding warrants when they found him behind the wheel of a vehicle at around 12:19 at Beck’s on East Main Street.

Reports say that Nickas refused to exit the vehicle and when police deployed stop sticks, he accelerated out of the parking lot, puncturing a tire, and drove onto North Farnham Street.

Reports say Nickas turned onto East Losey and drove through a yard in the 600-block of Phillips before driving through a chain-link fence at O. N. Custer Park.

Officers lost sight of him but were able to find the vehicle in the 400-block of Burgland Avenue.

Reports say that Nickas’ warrants were for a 2016 felony case of violating probation and a 2019 traffic case related to the unlawful display of title or certificate.
