Man shot in the hand in Galesburg

A 32-year-old man was reportedly shot in the hand over the weekend in Galesburg.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to Cottage Hospital’s Emergency Room at around 1:33 Saturday morning for a gunshot victim who advised it happened at a house party on East Knox Street.

Officers responded to the 1900-block of East Knox where blood droplets were found on the street and in a driveway leading to a residence where they found the front door ajar.

Police officers searched the area and found no shell casings or bullet holes and no evidence in the house indicated the incident happened there.

A neighbor advised police she was trying to sleep and kept up from music from the party at the residence when she heard a gunshot from what she thought was outside. Shortly after the party dispersed in a calm matter.

The victim told officers he had arrived at the area and was walking towards the house party. When he got to the driveway he heard two gunshots from an unknown direction.

After realizing he’d been asked an unknown woman for a ride to the hospital to seek medical treatment. He couldn’t advise officers of a suspect and didn’t know where the shots came from.

The investigation continues.
