Monmouth woman charged with harboring fugitive

A Monmouth woman had her bond set at $15,000 in Warren County Circuit Court this week for harboring a fugitive.

34-year-old Mindy S. Bearden will be back in court on Tuesday, October 29, when she makes her first appearance with the public defender, Justin Bougher.

According to a Monmouth Police report, officers received a tip from Crimestoppers that Bearden was harboring 43-year-old Shiloh M. Bates, who had a $25,000 warrant in Warren County for methamphetamine delivery.

The report indicates that the informant had seen Bates with Bearden at a residence in the 400-block of South 11th Street. The informant also told officers that Bearden would sneak Bates into town in the trunk of her car.

Officers arrived and searched the residence on Monday, October 21, finding him after an investigator, “seen Shilow peeking out of a bedroom door,” according to the report. He was taken to the Warren County Jail.

Bearden would arrive at the jail and allegedly tell officers that it, “wasn’t what it looked like.” Reports indicate she said she “had brought him (Shiloh) to town to get him to turn himself in.”

She was arrested on an unrelated report and questioned regarding the information that she would hide him in the trunk of her car while driving around Monmouth.

“Mindy said Shiloh would mostly lay on the back floorboard but he has been in her trunk before,” the report said. Harboring a fugitive is a Class 4 felony.

Bates will also be back in Warren County court on October 29 on his meth delivery case.
