One of the Galesburg Police Department’s K9 officers is expected to retire in December and so a replacement has been found.
Galesburg City Council will vote Monday on approving the purchase of a canine for the cost of $10,500 to Shallow Creek Kennels, based in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania.
The dog will be dual purpose, trained in both detecting illegal drugs as well as tracking people and articles.
Council documents say the recommended sale price is on the high end, but well within the range of what this type of animal goes for.
