Galesburg man charged with meth and exchanging bogus cash

A Galesburg man is being charged with forgery and possession of methamphetamine after being arrested in the Broadview Inn and Suites Monday morning.Officers were called to the Broadview to follow up on a complaint from the previous day that a black male had gotten change for a $100 bill at the front desk that turned out to be counterfeit.

36-year-old David A. Pacheco is on parole after being released from the Shawnee Correctional Center in February where he was serving a sentence for possession of meth from 2017.

Galesburg officers that first made contact with Pachecho were aware that he had violated parole and had an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant out for him.

The employee of the Broadview that reported the counterfeit $100, identified Pacheco as the one that had gotten change for the fake money.

It was when officers searched Pacheco incident to his arrest on forgery that they found a hypodermic needle in his pants pocket and in another pocket a baggie containing a chunk of what would field test positive for over 6 grams of meth.

Pacheco has previously plead guilty to possession of meth manufacturing materials in 2015 and 2013 and plead guilty to Class 4 felony forgery in 2001.
