One dead, three others injured in Henderson Co. crash

An Oquawka woman has been killed and three others injured after a head-on collision in rural Henderson County.

According to the Illinois State Police, 75-year-old Helen R. Crandall was killed after she was ejected from a vehicle following the crash on U.S. 34, near Gladstone Lake Road Wednesday.

Also injured in the accident were 84-year-old Wayne J. Crandall, 48-year-old Tina A. Wesely, and a 4-year-old child. All three were transported to Great River Health Systems in Burlington. Authorities say that Wesley and the juvenile have already been released from Great River. The driver of the semi, 39-year-old Susannah M. Block of Baldwin, Iowa, was not injured.

Preliminary investigation indicates that around 12:16 p.m. Wesely was driving east on U.S. 34 when she crossed the center line and struck the semi head-on. The release from ISP indicates that Wesely’s backseat passengers were not wearing seatbelts. It is unclear which passengers were in the back seat.

Wesely was cited for improper lane usage, failure to utilize a child restraint, and driving while license was suspended.

KBUR is reporting that U.S. 34 was shut down briefly Wednesday afternoon.

Assisting with the crash were the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Gladstone Fire Department, Biggsville Ambulance, Life-Flight, and Burlington Fire Department.
