Northwoods Church and Slumberland gives new beds to area families.

There’s an event going on Thursday, December 6th to help area residents get a better night’s sleep. Slumberland Furniture in Galesburg along with Northwoods Church is having its “Home for the Holidays” event. It’s an annual event held by Slumberland but this is the event’s first year in Galesburg. Susie Peet, Manager of Northwoods’ Renew Thrift Store and Benevolent Center tells WGIL the church receives applications for families in need of a bed each month. “Slumberland had approached us to be part of their “Home for the Holidays” bed giveaway,” Peet said. “We get many requests for people in town that need beds. We were so thankful that they were willing to use us as an outlet to give away their beds. We are so excited to be able to bless thirteen different people with brand new beds at Slumberland.” The Renew Thrift Store and Benevolent Center at Northwoods Church accepts donations year-round and is open to the public. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 am until 6:00 pm and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event today at Slumberland is from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and will feature pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus and food by Hy Vee on Henderson Street. The event has been held since 1993 at Slumberland Furniture Stores and is being held in Galesburg for the first time. Since 1993, Slumberland has donated over 35,000 beds to deserving families. Northwoods Church in Galesburg, through their Renew Thrift Store & Benevolent Center gives away donated beds to area families – through this event brand new beds will be given away.
