Stolen car strikes utility pole in Galesburg

A stolen vehicle struck a power pole at the intersection of South and Locust street early Friday morning.

Galesburg Police officers responded to a call of a single vehicle accident at around 4:16 where the car was found to have struck a utility pole, causing the pole to shift and crack.

According to a police report, officers determined the vehicle was registered out of Moline and was observed oil to be leaking from the car.

The owner of the vehicle arrived on scene to tell officers that the vehicle had been stolen. Officers observed no injuries on the man consistent with being involved in the accident.

The witness who called in the accident told police that she had possibly observed a white male with curly hair behind the wheel. The vehicle’s owner was a black male with a shaved head.

Ameren officials told police that the pole would be replaced later in the day.
