Orpheum Theatre nearing end of renovations

The Orpheum Theatre in Galesburg will soon have completed extensive renovations that have been going on piecemeal for the last two years.

The theatre celebrated its 100th birthday in 2016, the same year a Centennial Capital Campaign was launched with a goal to raise $850,000. That goal was swiftly met within four months.

Since then, they’ve installed a state-of-the-art sound system, new stage drapes, upgrades to the fire safety system, HVAC system upgrades, roof repairs and new carpeting and floor designs.
Most of these projects were done by local contractors and businesses as well.

The final piece of the campaign will be cleaning and repairs to the building’s iconic facade.

Executive Director Kevin Maynard says that the timeline of completion was longer than most organizations after a capital campaign but says it’s due to the “nature of our industry.”

He said the theater is enjoying frequent bookings so the work had to be done around the various shows and events they host.
