A Galesburg man made an appearance in Knox County Circuit Court this week on methamphetamine and weapons charges.
31-year-old Steven W. Charles made a video appearance on May 29th with Judge James Standard where bond was set at $5,000.
Charles is charged with a single count of each: Class X Armed Violence, Class 3 Possession of less than 5 grams of Meth, and Class 3 Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
According to reports, Galesburg Police officers stopped Charles as he was riding his bicycle for a light infraction. After it was discovered Charles was on parole, he was instructed of a mandatory search. During this time he began putting his hands in his pockets – to which officers instructed him not to.
He refused the search and became uncooperative with officers. Officers had to wrestle with Charles to get him to cooperate, eventually using a taser to prevent him from resisting.
He was handcuffed, and searched. Officers found 2.5 grams of crystal meth underneath him as well as a pocket knife.
He is due back in court on June 11th for a preliminary hearing.
