Bustos to travel with President Obama on trip to Cuba

President Barack Obama will be traveling this Sunday to Cuba with fellow democrats, including Congresswoman Cheri Bustos.

In a news release, Bustos says the trade partnership between Cuba and Illinois that she has been working toward since last year presents a “real opportunity to grow our agricultural economy and create more good-paying manufacturing jobs in Illinois.”

Bustos says the aim of the Cuba trips, which began last October with Illinois Republican Congressman Rodney Davis, is to create new outlets for Illinois exporters, ag producers and equipment manufacturers.

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky are joining Bustos and Obama along with about 20 members of congress on the upcoming Cuba trip to Havana.

Schakowsky applauded Obama for overturning what she called an “ineffective and outdated policy” when he began loosening sanctions against Cuba.
