Knox County Sheriff’s deputies pulled a driver over for speeding this morning, leading to the arrest of an Abingdon man on a $15,000 forgery warrant.
The Sheriff’s Department says 22-year-old David M. McClendon, who was wanted for three counts of forgery, was going 69 in a 55 mph speed zone in rural Wataga when deputies pulled him over.
McClendon was given a warning for speeding and booked on the warrant. He is the second suspect arrested in a Galesburg case involving stolen checks.
According to police reports, McClendon and 37-year-old Michael R. King had stolen checks from two Warren County farmers while servicing machinery for a power washing company in September of last year.
The stolen checks were tracked to local banks where they were cashed for a total of more than $4,100. King faces four counts of forgery; McClendon faces three.
McClendon remains in the Knox County jail on $15,000 bond.
