Amtrak-related marijuana bust one of several in past few weeks

The Knox County Sheriffs Department says they were able to seize tens of thousands of dollars worth of marijuana off an Amtrak train earlier this week.

Officials say it was done Tuesday as part of a joint investigation with Nebraska State Police. They say 21-year-old Dylan Patrick of Middletown, Ohio got off the California Zephyr in Galesburg and entered the train station, but that deputies were waiting for him based on intelligence they received.

A Sheriffs Department K-9 allegedly alerted to Patrick’s baggage, which was later discovered to have 17-pounds of marijuana inside, worth an estimated $68,000.

Patrick was arrested and charged with Cannabis Trafficking and Manufacture or Delivery of Cannabis — both over 5,000 grams. Patrick is in the Knox County Jail pending future court dates.

The Sheriffs Department says in the last two weeks alone, investigators and their K-9’s have seized over 44 pounds of pot valued at $176,000.
