Parks and Rec plan up for first reading

The City of Galesburg Comprehensive Plan was approved two weeks ago and on Monday night it’s the Parks and Recreation Master Plan’s turn.

Actually, the overarching guide for parks and rec policy is only on first reading tonight.

Houseal Lavigne Associates, the same firm that prepared the Comprehensive Plan, also prepared the Parks and Rec plan which includes fairly flexible sketches for facilities, trails, and an open space plan.

Similar to the Comprehensive Plan, Council would still have to approve any details in specific appropriation ordinances in the future.

The council might also approve a bid that would move Galesburg Police to an e-citation system. Written citations have been the norm up until now.

If Aldermen approve the roughly $81,000 bid, Galesburg Police officers would enter traffic and other citations into a system electronically, replacing the current practice where officers turn in a paper citation to a data clerk who enters into a system.

The goal of the new system, according to council documents, is to “increase productivity, reduce the potential for errors” and streamline the process.

The $81,000 price tag includes hardware, software, training, installation and continued maintenance for 5 years.

The recommended bid of two submitted is from Tyler Technologies, a publicly traded software company based in Plano, Texas that focuses on servicing the public sector.

Aldermen also may approve a supplemental engineering agreement for work that remains on the Aline Shotts Bridge.

While the bridge opened to traffic last month but work remains like installing sidewalks, finishing work on retaining and parapet walls, railing, landscaping, and asphalt resurfacing.

Bruner, Cooper, and Zuck would do the work for about $48,000, with the expectation of work being done around May 2019.

Additionally, Galesburg Administration is proposing that Aldermen tonight approve a bid for over $17,000 of audio equipment to be installed at the Lake Storey Pavilion.

The administration says the current equipment is outdated for meeting the needs of patrons.

Music Makers was the lowest and only local bid and are the recommended vendor.

The new equipment will include Bose sound equipment, Shure microphone, a Bluetooth receiver, laser projector, and wireless presentation capabilities.

The Galesburg City Council meets at 6:30 at City Hall.
