Regional Office of Education #33 embracing the use of podcasts for educators

Since the early part of the school year, the Regional Office of Education #33 has has been preparing to provide a series of podcasts for both educators and districts in the four counties the office serves.

The first in the series debuted recently featuring interviews with Regional Superintendent Jodi Scott, ROWVA Superintendent Joe Sornberger, ROWVA teacher Traci Johnson, and Churchill Junior High Teacher Jared Bruening.  Professional Development Coordinator for ROE 33, Brian Bates, says it’s a great tool for educators to use to share information with other teachers and districts. “We look for different ways to reach educators in the area, so this is just one of those things,” Bates said. “(Things like) podcasts and twitter have become essential parts of an educator’s toolkit. (It’s) to highlight the programs the Regional Office itself is doing…what different districts are doing….and to highlight what individual teachers are doing in the classroom.” Bates wishes to provide a 30 minute podcast monthly – consisting of 8 to 10 minute interviews. The goal is to eventually include student participation as well as access available to community members.  A link will soon be available on the Regional Office’s websiteTo hear the ROE’s first podcast, click here.
