205 School Board make final staff appointments before school year

The Galesburg 205 Board of Education met earlier today were they considered and approved the final staff appointments for the 2017-18 school year.

The shortened meeting saw the appointments of Ellen Spittell as part time principal at Bright Futures, something that Dr. John Asplund had asked the board to consider at the regular July meeting. In addition to Spittell, the board called back Alicia Warren to the position of Speech teacher for Special Education at Bright Futures. The board also appointed Elizabeth Smith as Special Ed teacher, and Jennifer Guenther as Social Studies teacher for the high school while Tara Denhart was hired as an English Language Arts teacher at Churchill Jr. High. The board approved the call back of Karen Steck and Ellen Rush to Nielson School, while Sharon Pelzer was called back to the Speech Language Therapist for Special Education at Silas, replacing Hannah Emery. A handful of teachers were transferred including Angela Harshbarger to 1st Grade at King School, and Amanda Murray-Dynes to 3rd Grade at Steele School. Ryan Fitzgerald, the Geography Bowl advisor and Assistant Track Coach at Churchill resigned from both positions effective earlier this month, as did Devin Mathis from GHS where he was a Vocational Auto Mechanics teacher.
