Veterans and other groups marched down Main Street yesterday, lead by a Vietnam vet to celebrate Memorial Day.
Peoria native Bob Spears, the Executive Director of the Defenders of Freedom Veteran’s Home had the honor of being named Grand Marshall of yesterdays event.
When asked what advice he was given in leading the parade Spear joked and said “just to keep my head down.”
He spent eight and a half years in the army with two years in Vietnam where he was stationed next to a medical hospital and after leaving military service spent some time working in a coal mine.
Spears told WGIL that he is very proud to been given the opportunity to lead the parade yesterday.
