Sunday alcohol sale changes on Knoxville agenda

Residents of Knoxville may soon get an opportunity to purchase alcohol as early as 6:00 am on Sundays.

The Knoxville City Council proposed the change to the city ordinance that would allow for sales 6 hours earlier than the current law states.

Currently it is illegal to sell alcohol between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and noon on Sundays within the Knoxville city limits.

These changes would give Knoxville longer hours for Sunday sales of liquor when compared to both the city of Galesburg and Knox County who only prohibit sales between 2-7 a.m.

The council also approved the cleaning of the North Water Tower and a resolution for Knoxville city employee salary increases.

Additionally, the council discussed the extension of trash collection to Fox road, and Kriegh Lane.

Last night was also the first meeting of the newest alderman on the council, Angie Hillier who replaced Frank Olin in the first ward.

Alderman Jim McGovern was absent from last night’s meeting.
