Police arrested a Galesburg man yesterday morning after a domestic call involving a gun turned into a tussle with officers.
According to police reports, 28-year-old Trey J. Swain was fighting with the victim in their South Arthur Street home. Police were told Swain had a handgun.
While officers tried to place Swain in handcuffs, he pulled away, spit in an officer’s face and attempted to headbutt police.
He was eventually taken to the ground. Swain suffered a cut to the forehead and an officer had a scraped elbow.
A witness said Swain brandished a handgun and held it at his side while fighting before police arrived.
Swain faces charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, domestic battery and aggravated battery to a peace officer.
In court today, Judge Stephen Mathers said he had concerns over the strength of evidence around the firearm charge. It was unclear if a handgun was recovered at the scene.
Swain is held on $10,000 bond. His next court date is May 23.
