UPDATE: Authorities capture wanted man after aerial pursuit

The Avon Police Department says officers arrested a wanted Galesburg man today following a chase that involved an aerial pursuit near Abingdon.

Avon Police Chief Bill Garrison says Det. William Robinson spotted the man, identified as 24-year-old Ethan McNeil, in a pickup truck in Abingdon. McNeil was wanted on two Fulton County warrants for criminal damage to property stemming from a week-long series of “high-value damage” reports in Avon.

When Robinson gave chase, McNeil fled south on Illinois 41 and drove into a field where he continued on foot. Illinois State Trooper Jason Wilson says an ISP aerial unit found the fleeing suspect after 10:45 a.m.

McNeil was apprehended at Highways 116 and 41, roughly five miles from where the foot chase began.

Robinson says McNeil confessed to allegations of criminal damage. The suspect is held on $10,000 bond.

Avon Police and ISP were assisted by the Knox County Sheriffs Department, BNSF Police and Galesburg Police.
