Meet March 2023’s Big Red Apple Award Winner

Congratulations to our latest recipient of the Big Red Apple Award  – Patti Stephenson – a paraprofessional at Silas Willard Elementary School in Galesburg – nominated by Carole Ramirez, a bus driver with District #205.

What sets your teacher apart from others?
Pattie always has a smile and kind word for her students. She has been hit, kicked, slapped, bitten and hair pulled by students. But she never wavers from her love for them or her job. She is truly a God send to the teaching profession!

What is one thing your teacher does that is not in his/her job description but he/she does it anyway to help you or your child?
I am not a student or parent. I drive a school bus and have observed Pattie get on the bus at the school to help seat students, harness them, redress them, calm them down, or help monitor with unruly students.

Give an example of a way your teacher has helped or impacted you or your child.
I can tell a difference in my students behaviors over the course of a school year just by how they are treated by Pattie. She remains calm, soft spoken , and positive thru any situation she handles on bus and off.

Pattie receives the Big Red Apple Award with her name engraved on it along with a $100 gift card and bouquet. Congratulations Pattie Stephenson from Galesburg Nissan, Tompkins State Bank, Cooks-n-Company, Lacky Monuments and 105.3 KFM
