Meet February’s KFM Teacher of the Month

The latest KFM Teacher of the Month is Maddie Schacht, a 3rd grade teacher at Hedding Grade School in Abingdon. Maddie was nominated by Katie Bailey, who’s daughter is a student in Maddie’s class.  As KFM’s Teacher of the Month, Maddie receives the Big Red Apple Award along with a $100 gift card and other gifts courtesy of Galesburg Nissan, Tompkins State Bank, Lacky Monuments, Cooks & Company, and 105.3 KFM. Here’s a little bit more about Maddie:

Where did you grow up? Mahomet, Illinois
Years teaching: 3
Favorite part of teaching: Seeing the lightbulb moment happen for students as they learn new things
Favorite subject growing up: Reading
Favorite subject to teach: Math 
Favorite Food: Chicken and veggie stirfry 
Least Favorite Food: Olives
Favorite Movies: The Proposal, Ocean’s 8, King Richard
Favorite TV Shows: New Girl, This is Us, In the Dark
Favorite Sports Team: Don’t have one
What do you like to do in your spare time? Reading, going on walks, game nights with friends/family, cooking new recipes 
Something about me that you may not know: I played tennis in high school and college, and I still love playing it for fun!

Here’s what Katie had to say about Maddie:

What sets this teacher apart from others?
She goes above and beyond for her students. She is always there for them and is even willing to offer tutoring after school. She loves her students and you can definitely tell. My daughter always comes home excited because she her teacher makes learning fun.

What is one thing this teacher does that is not in their job description but they do it anyway to help you or your child?
She offers tutoring after school hours.

Give an example of a way this teacher has helped or impacted you or your child.
My daughter says she makes learning fun with different types of learning games.
