Knox County has 4th COVID-19 death; male in 50’s

The Illinois Department of Public Health revealed Monday that another resident of Knox County has died of complications from COVID-19; a male in his 50’s.

“We want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this individual,” says Public Health Administrator Michele Gabriele. “This is a sobering reminder of how dangerous this virus can be.”

This is the fourth death reported in Knox County since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

Erin Olson with Knox Health Department reported 61 new COVID cases in Knox County from Tuesday to Thursday, on Friday.

Adding that total to the updated numbers from the state, Knox County has 81 new cases since last Tuesday, which would be a new record total for a week.

The health department is expected to give their weekly count of new cases on Tuesday, but using data from IDPH, the county has been averaging 77 new cases a week for the past three weeks.

This essentially follows the national curve which shows rising cases in the U.S. since early September.
