GPD and DCFS respond to complaints of a child outside unsupervised

On Monday, September 28th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of South Seminary in reference to a Department of Children and Family Services investigation. DCFS received multiple complaints of an unsupervised 4-year old male wandering around outside the home. After an initial attempt to make contact at the home failed, GPD returned an hour later with a DCFS worker and a Sheriff’s Deputy. According to police reports, upon their return, officials found the child outside, unsupervised, two blocks away from the residence. Police made contact with the father, 33-year old Shawn Bowman of Galesburg. The child was taken into DCFS custody for his own protection, and Bowman was also arrested for a Knox County Warrant for a hit & run.
