Two Toulon men identified as fatal drowning victims in Knox County

Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a lake near Williamsfield, where they pronounced two men from Toulon, dead at the scene.

Officers responded to a lake on 2100 Illinois Route 180, near Williamsfield, around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, for an accident involving two drowning victims.

The deceased victims are listed as 40-year-old William J. Self of Toulon and 26-year-old Lawrence R. Self.

A preliminary autopsy report does not indicate any evidence of foul play.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Department was assisted in the investigation and recovery by Williamsfield Fire, Victoria Fire, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, which governs the lake.

This case remains under investigation and those with information are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department or Knox County Area Crimestoppers.
