84-year-old semi driver injured in single-vehicle accident

An 84-year-old man was transported from the scene of a single-vehicle accident that had shut down both lanes of travel on Interstate 74 near Galesburg on Monday morning.

According to Illinois State Police at around 5:35, James J. Pfab of El Paso, Illinois, was traveling eastbound on 74 driving a semi-trailer when, for unknown reasons, veered off the roadway and overturned after traveling through the center median.

Facebook posts of the incident indicate that a Life Flight helicopter was called to the scene.

Both lanes of travel were shut down at around 5:52 and all eastbound travel was diverted to U.S. Highway 34. All westbound lanes were reopened by 7:57 and by approximately 12:34 p.m., all eastbound lanes were reopened.

ISP says charges are pending in the incident. Pfab’s current condition is unknown at this time.
