Discovery Depot and Knox YMCA offering E-learning space for area students.

With so many area school districts going to remote learning either full-time or part-time, Discovery Depot and the Knox County YMCA are opening virtual learning spaces for area students. “The museum has three classrooms within it,” said Executive Director Denise Bradburn. “We’ll be utilizing those spaces. We’re taking ten students in each space so we can practice social distancing. We have a healthy amount of fiber (internet) upload and download so we’re able to support all those children being on their Chromebooks or laptops simultaneously. The museum has always been a place to support learning and inspire learning. We felt this went right along with our mission.”  Discovery Depot’s program will follow a typical school day – so it will not be run as a daycare. The program is open to all area students and will run from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm each day. The program will cost $125 per week with an additional $75 charge for an additional sibling. Space is limited so you are encouraged to contact Discovery Depot to get signed up.

The Knox County YMCA is planning to provide five hours of E-Learning each day as well as physical education and outdoor activities for Galesburg and Knoxville Schools. Financial assistance is available, and no one is turned away due to inability to pay.
