Ameren responds to Monday afternoon storm cell

Storms that rolled through the area Monday afternoon that led to power outages across much of west-central Illinois.

At 5:00 p.m., Ameren Illinois issued a request for mutual aid from the Midwest Mutual Assistance Group to help with utility restoration efforts.

In a statement, Ameren says that 55,500 customers were without power, adding that LaSalle County was the hardest hit but Bureau, Henry, Peoria, and Tazewell counties were among some of the areas were numerous outages were reported.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning in the afternoon with wind speeds of 70 miles an hour for Galesburg, Knox County, and the surrounding area.

Damage around town included downed tree limbs and debris blown into city streets. As of yet, no injuries related to the storm have been reported.

Ameren Illinois customers without power can call 800-755-5000 to report an outage. Information on the restoration status of individual outages will be provided to customers who have reported their outages to Ameren.
