Knox County sees largest jump in COVID cases since mid-May

Knox County health officials revealed Tuesday that there have been 19 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the past week.
Most of the new cases are in people younger than 60, as has been the trend, but there was a female in her 70’s that was confirmed.

It was also reported a female between the ages of 10 and 19 has the virus.

It’s an 11 percent increase for confirmed cases in the last week, the largest one week jump seen in the county since mid-May.

Still, the data seems to indicate more testing is playing some part in the growing number of positive cases.

Since early June the number of tests performed has increased at twice the rate of confirmed cases.

749 tests were completed between June 30 and July 7.

In comparison, Warren County health officials announced 11 new cases over the last week, bringing their total in the county to 149.

Yesterday, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 587 new confirmed cases of the novel viral disease and 37 additional deaths.
