AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: Investigation Uncovers No Wrongdoing

NBC has concluded its investigation into alleged racism on the set of America’s Got Talent and uncovered no wrongdoing, according to Page Six. This comes on the same day former judge Gabrielle Union, who made the claims, did a lengthy interview with Variety about her experience on the show.

Gabrielle said in November that, among other things, show execs complained that her hairstyles were “too black.” But a rep for the show said that an outside investigator has “revealed that no one associated with the show made any insensitive or derogatory remarks about Ms. Union’s appearance, and that neither race nor gender was a contributing factor in the advancement or elimination of contestants at any time.”

Gabrielle told Variety that she’d been let go in September — along with Julianne Hough — after a season on the show because she’d spoken up about what she called a “toxic work environment.” She claimed that judge and series creator Simon Cowell “poisoned” her by smoking indoors during production. The spokesperson said, “The investigation has shown that the concerns raised by Ms. Union had no bearing on the decision not to exercise the option on her contract.”
