Carl Sandburg College’s Take Charger of Hunger Program receives grant

The Carl Sandburg College Foundation has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Galesburg Walmart to support Sandburg’s Take Charge of Hunger program. Take Charge of Hunger equips Sandburg students with free meal cards that can be used at either food service location on the Main Campus in Galesburg. Meal cards can be used on a temporary basis or for ongoing issues. Students can request Take Charge of Hunger funds by completing a brief application on the Carl Sandburg College website (www.sandburg.edu). Funds from the grant will be implemented when Sandburg’s campuses reopen from the COVID-19 pandemic. Director of Advancement Emily Webel said, “This money will go directly toward making sure that Sandburg students in need have access to quality food on our campus without having to worry about where their next meal will come from.” Walmart’s local community grants are awarded directly from Walmart and Sam’s Club facilities to eligible nonprofit organizations through an open application process. Walmart and Sam’s Club stores provided more than $42 million in local grants to organizations during the 2019 fiscal year.
