Tracy co-sponsors Republican plan to reopen Illinois

Republican State Sen. Jil Tracy is co-sponsoring a state reopening plan that differs from the Restore Illinois plan Gov. J.B. Pritzker is using.

Even with the changes that Gov. Pritzker announced Wednesday, Tracy says the plan she supports is more “expansive.”

The bill would require the Illinois Department of Public Health to establish and publish Safe Place of Business protocols by May 30.  Some of those would include customer density limits , face covering requirements for employees and regular cleaning regimens.

Tracy says when COVID-19 first started “we did not question the need to stay at home.”  She says after two months we can now begin to work with employers, and trust them to implement realistic protocols.

The legislation also requires General Assembly approval before any future extension of the governor’s initial disaster proclamation.
