Sandburg offering free seminars and online courses for job-seekers

In these uncertain times, Carl Sandburg College is offering some free seminars and online courses for job-seekers or self-starters.

The school’s Corporate and Leisure College is offering several free resources available to assist job-seekers and those already in the workforce.

The school will host a pair of virtual seminars in June on resume writing and job interviewing in addition to offering 10 non-credit, self-paced tutorial online courses.

“Resume 911: How to Write an Attention-Grabbing Resume” and “Interview Bootcamp: Hot to Make Them Want to Hire You” will be offered virtually via Zoom videoconferencing.

Tracy Engstrom, Sandburg’s coordinator of career development, who is also an academy-certified resume writer and certified etiquette consultant.

The Resume 911 session will help attendees learn how to make a lasting, positive impact on a prospective employer in a short amount of time while increasing the chance of a resume getting to the top of the stack.

Interview Bootcamp will go over how body language, posture, etiquette, and nonverbal signals play a large role in a successful interview. Attendees will also learn how to answer difficult questions, develop interview strategies, improve their communication skills, and reduce stress before a job interview.

Both are free to attend, but pre-registration is required. Resume 911 is being held on June 8th while Interview Bootcamp will be on June 15th. Both events run from 6:00 to 7:30 pm.

The community college is also offering 10 non-credit courses via ed2go in which students can learn a new skill or sharpen an existing one without having to worry about a grade.

Each class is available to students for three months upon enrolling and include creating web pages, creating WordPress websites, managing customer service, personal finance, and marketing your business for the internet.
