Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds available for Knox County

The Department of Homeland Security / Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded federal funds under the Food and Shelter National Board Program to Knox County recently. According to a press release from Laun Dunn, Executive Director of the United Way of Knox County, the county has been chosen to receive $50,032 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs. The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board consists of representatives from the American Red Cross, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, Catholic Charities, The Salvation Army, The Jewish Federations of North America, and United Way Worldwide. A Local Board made up of the United Way, Red Cross, churches, and the City is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county. Local agencies chosen to receive funds are private voluntary non-profits. Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for funds through the program must contact the Local Board Chair: United Way of Knox County Executive Director Laun Dunn. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 22nd.
