Galesburg High School announces dates to finish out the 2020 school year

Galesburg High School Principal Jeff Houston sent a letter to GHS seniors and parents yesterday announcing some changed dates for senior events and celebrations. The Virtual Honors Assembly has been set for May 27th – a link will be published.

Award winners will be contacted prior to the event and will be asked to send in a picture upon receiving the award certificate. The deadline to send in a picture is May 21st, and if one isn’t sent in, a school picture will be used.

Prom will be held Friday, June 12th at the Fieldhouse from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm with free admission. The alternate date for prom will be Friday, July 17th – and will not be rescheduled after this date.

A traditional graduation ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 14th at 3:00 pm in Hegg Auditorium. The alternate date and a remote graduation ceremony will be held on Sunday, July 19th if that is required.

There will also be no Project Graduation this year. Any money raised for Project Graduation should be considered as a donation for future class reunions.

The dates and/or the format for the senior class events may change as more information from the Governor and the CDC become available. Houston’s letter also states that the goal is to have a celebratory finish to the student’s senior year.

The hope is that by pushing dates further into the summer, the district can honor all the work seniors have accomplished.
