Dist. #202 hires Burgess as Interim Superintendent

The District #202 Board of Education made a decision last night to hire a Knoxville native as their interim superintendent.

The board unanimously approved Joe Burgess to take over for Steve Wilder when he leaves the Knoxville school district for Sycamore School District #427 in the summer.

Burgess was a Knoxville graduate who went on to Monmouth College and eventually Western Illinois University. Until 2017, he was the superintendent at Genoa Kingston. He also was a superintendent at Tuscola and Saunemin.

He was also an elementary school principal in Galesburg and taught elementary and middle school at ROWVA.

Burgess will be starting in July while the board re-engages their search for the official replacement for Wilder.

In other action, the board approved Rick Hart for network administrative services for the Information Technology department. Hart is the head IT person at the Williamsfield School District.

The board had been looking to hire their own administrator and will re-engage that search in the new school year.

Board members also approved the purchase of SMART Panels for the district as well as approving an energy supply agreement with Dynegy.
