Governor announces $470,000 for Galesburg to assist low-income homeowners

The City of Galesburg has been awarded $470,000 to assist low and very low-income homeowners with necessary home repairs.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s administration announced awards Thursday of $11 million state-wide for municipalities to administer.

State-wide this round of funding is projected to assist at least 326 households through a competitive application process.

Illinois Housing Development Authority Executive Director Kristin Faust, says “for various reasons, successful homeowners can suddenly find themselves on fixed incomes and unable to handle critical home repairs.”

Houses that may qualify for up to $45,000 would be those needing removal of documented health and safety hazards that undermine the integrity of the home.

The projects can address roofing, flooring, electrical, plumbing, siding and other code or safety issues with the property.

There’s also a second option in which a homeowner could get up to $16,500 to address only the roof.

The City of Galesburg should be able to assist at least 9 homeowners with the funds they received.
