Rescue Mission now center of local COVID-19 case

Galesburg Rescue Mission Executive Director Dave Scholl says he’s cooperating with the Knox County Health Department as an investigation continues there after, Scholl says, the county’s first confirmed case of COVID-19 Coronavirus is a person who is a resident at the Rescue Mission.

Scholl says the male in his 50’s is said to be doing well and should be out of the hospital soon.

Scholl tells WGIL he’s cooperating with the Knox County Health Department’s investigation.

“Mainly, they wanted to check out all the other residents,” says Scholl.  “They wanted to screen them, and screen us staff, and do that, and go from there.  They did take a couple tests of a couple people.  Then, I can fast-forward to Sunday…those two tests came back negative.  They had worked with the state on more that should be done…people here were quarantined.  Us as staff were only to go home and come back to work, basically nowhere else.”

There are about 30 overnight residents and ten employees at the facility currently.

The Knox County Health Department is still declining to talk about the specific situation, nor even confirm an investigation is continuing, citing federal health privacy laws.  The identity of the patient isn’t being released.

“[The Health Department] called [Friday night], and said they needed to meet with us Saturday morning,” Scholl says.  “I can only give high credit to the Knox County Health Department.  They’ve done a wonderful job.”
