There are new restrictions being put in place at the Knox County Courthouse due to COVID-19.
Many departments run by the county operate out of the courthouse and each department has various new policies put in place amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Circuit Clerk’s office asking all patrons who are paying fines, traffic tickets or child support to pay by mail or online (use code a001L1)
No entry to the Circuit Clerk’s office will be allowed without an appointment unless you have a pending court case scheduled for the date. They can be reached at 345-3859.
Pursuant to the recent order by Chief Judge Vancil and the Illinois Supreme Court, anyone exhibiting certain symptoms and those accompanying them may be denied entry into the office.
The State’s Attorney office is also closed to the general public, attorneys, and courthouse staff. For assistance, contact the office by telephone at 345-3880
The County Clerk’s department can order birth, marriage, and death records online or through the mail while they will not allow in-person genealogical searches.
If a marriage license is needed, they’re asking that an appointment be made.
Delinquent property taxes can be paid through the mail with a money order or certified check — no personal checks will be accepted. Questions about the current amount needed to pay can be answered over the phone at 345-3815.
The County Recorder’s office is closed to the general public, only attorneys or certified title searchers and surveyors will be allowed. They can provide assistance over the phone at 345-3818
Finally, the Treasurer’s Office says that mobile home taxes can be paid by mail or utilizing the drop box at the parking lot exit on South Street. They recommend not mailing or dropping off cash payments. Their number is 345-3863
The public is being asked to not arrive at the courthouse without prior direction to do so. Court security will be monitoring all access to the building.
