Galesburg Mayor allows restaurants to sell packaged liquor

Mayor John Pritchard has issued an emergency order to allow some restaurants to sell packaged alcohol for off-premises consumption.
The City Council on Thursday voted to give Pritchard and City Manager Todd Thompson emergency powers over the next 30 days due to the spread of COVID-19.

The order will basically allow bars and restaurants to sell packaged alcohol with to-go orders.

One notable exception to Pritchard’s order is gaming parlors.

The order also makes clear that alcohol can only be purchased at a restaurant for pick up, and not for drive-thru and delivery orders.

If Galesburg Police determine that an establishment has violated the order police have the authority to order them to close.

This rule is expected to stay in effect until Illinois officials end the state-wide health emergency.
