Carl Sandburg College becomes latest to cancel commencement

Carl Sandburg College is joining growing of colleges and universities to cancel their commencement this year.

Sandburg President Dr. Seamus Reilly sent a letter to community stakeholders Thursday afternoon saying canceling this year’s graduation events has been one of the college’s most challenging decisions.

Pinning ceremonies for this year’s nursing program graduates and all other on-campus events for the rest of the semester have been canceled.

Western Illinois University announced their commencement would be canceled and Monmouth College has postponed.

President Reilly cites the directive given by the Centers for Disease Control against gatherings of more than 10 people.

He says it’s their plan to give graduates recognition in some capacity at the end of the semester.
